Default External Hard Drive Problem. Any Pointers?

Hello everyone thanks for the help ahead of time. But I just have a quick question regarding a external hard drive. I have one of the older Maxtor one touch II hard drives and it has plenty of space left but when I am backing up my dvds I drag the .ISO file to my external and it always comes up with the message "Cannot copy DVD_NAME: there is not enough free hard disk space" However there is plenty of room for this transfer. My cousin also has this same problem except he has a WD MyBook instead. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks guys

The dvds that I have been using recently have been ones I have purchased. I am trying to make backups of dvds I originally purchased. Any Help?

Doing that is an infringement on copyright laws and is against the law in most countries.
You are probably having problems with copy protection, getting around that protection is also illegal.
