No not just speed, the esata interface is far superior to USB2 and much more reliable.
IMO, USB is a flakey interface, at the best of times and is frought with all kinds of issues, such as bandwidth, power, drivers etc.
If I were considering external drives for any kind of serious application, especially for Server use, I would avoid USB like the plague

Gotcha. How about using external drives them selves. There is alot of great info here but no one is commenting on whether using an external for near 24/7 365 use is good or reliable.

It is just my understanding that some drives can handle it but there are drives meant for 24/7 use correct?

In theory all drives should be capable, but normally Servers are equipped with faster, higher priced drives like the Seagate Savvio Drives, which run at 10.000rpm. Generally these are smaller capacity and are set up in arrays.

Serverguy is probably your man, if you want more info on Servers etc., so wait for him to drop by and add his comments
