I have 2 hard drives, and this error message appeared on my WD800JB 80GB. It is formatted in NTFS and is only used for data such as music, videos, etc. but when I right click it for its properties, it is read as RAW. The computer is displaying the correct capacity and correct storage usage but still cannot be accessed. Chkdsk or defrag cannot be run. This happened very randomly.

What has likely caused this, and what can be done to solve this?

Is it really important data?

Sounds to me like you may just have to reformat. But this would lose all you're data.

Retrieving it could be trickier, or cost a lot for some program or a proffessional to do it...

Only copy of pictures, program installation files, torrents of music, movies (from torrents lol), things I just don't wanna lose. Technically, its not really deleted. Windows just marks it as "free space" and gets overwritten over time. I didn't know that,

Programs music and movies can always be replaced - but are the pictures backed up anywhere?

*By the way this site doesn't support illegal activity such as torrent downloads breaching the copyright terms of its respective author*
