Default Hard disk circuit board replacement?

i have two Seagate 80GB HDD (ST3800118A)..recently, one unit's IC got burned and ofcourse it's not functioning anymore... the soft files inside are too important for me to lose... so i'm planning to replace the whole circuit board (since it can be replaced easily, some screws and flex holding them together) with the one in the healthy HDD w/c is of the same model..then get my files..the question is, is there any possibilty thet it will work, i have a little doubt that's why i want to ask some opinions before doing the replacement.

Why not transfer the hard drive to the good computer and then back up files on it.

Because the hdd's board is toast Mat that's why.
I doubt it will work bamboo as you don't know what effect it may have had on the tracking arm, you could try of course but to me the only course of action would be professional and that involves a large wallet.
It's a grim scenario mate. :(

Default Hard disk circuit board replacement?

I'm fairly certain it will work provided both drives are the same make and model, let me know how it works out

Default Hard disk circuit board replacement?

hey, I'm now working on my Seagate 320GB harddisk also...I have the same problem as yours, one of my IC i doubt its a diode burnt, so i went to electronics shop to find one, but I cant find the exact same IC of course, but i still try some similar diode on it and it works....for now....
Never take your HDD for warranty because u got physical damage on it already
Hope you can try my method by replacing the faulty IC only
