Hello folks, I am attempting to move a HDD into another unit (please dont ask why as it's a long story!)

Anyway, the HDD is an IDE Maxtor. In its original unit, it boots and works fine, however, when I stick it in another unit with the same configuration (set as the Master drive - no other drive is on the cable and the jumper is set to Master) it doesn't want to boot.

The bios can see the drive, and I have set it in the BIOS to be the first device in the boot sequence but when it boots, I'm getting a message saying no deives recognised and then it gets to the screen where I get the old

Serial_master ch0 : No device
Serial_master ch1 : No device

Then it goes on to this screen:

"We apologize for the inconvenisnce but Windows did not start properly..."

And then I have the choice of starting it in safe mode, safe mode with networking etc.

Doesn't matter which one of these I choose, it tries to boot, then fails and restarts itself.

If I boot the machine up with a Windows disc, it seems to see the drive fine and I have ran chkdsk and it is reporting no errors.

Thing is, if I put the original hdd back into the unit I am trying to put this hdd into, I still get the screen saying

Serial_master ch0 : No device
Serial_master ch1 : No device

But then Windows goes onto start normally.

This is driving me up the wall as I am sure I have all the settings right.
