Default Hard drive died? Stick it in the freezer.

No I have not lost the plot, but it has been known to work admittedly perhaps only temporarily.
Have a look and see what you think.

Lol. Only works for about 2 minutes though. Shame. Could buy broken hard drives, freeze them, and re-sell them :D:D

Yer, thats why i don't buy hard drives off ebay.
However, i know that glamorgan uni, buys about 200-300 hard drives off ebay, for the computer forensics course, so they can see if they can retrieve any data on them.

That's a really good idea Em, but what do they do with any info they find?
I used to wipe hdd's for a living from the MOD, NHS and local councils etc.
You'd be amazed at the stuff left on.

In theory policy's should be in place that won't allow a persons privacy to be accessed, ie the drive/s should be wiped before any recovery work is done on them.
It's easy enough to install say 98 then trash it and say "Ok pick the bones out of that" to teach Data recovery.

Alot of people think that formatting the drive is good enough, however data can still be retrieved

I washed a keyboard in a washing machine a few months ago.

Turned out just fine and Daz clean!

How on earth did you wash your keyboard in a washing machine?! Didn't it make a ruckus?! Did you run it through a drying cycle, too?

Heh, did you have to use any special detergents when you washed that keyboard? ;)
