| I must admit i have read about this on the net a few times and have always been skeptical. But today my bro's hard drive crashed with all his wedding, honeymoon and kids photos on it. Like 5 years worth, some 30GB. The drive was just powering down as soon as you tried to access it, tried an hour in the fridge and managed to get a few mins life from it and thought what the hell lets chuck it in the freezer for an hour. Managed to get most of the stuff off it all in one go, the thing was defrosting on the bench so fast, lasted 10 mins. It's back in for 3 hours this time so we can hopefully get it all. So yeah, I'm amazed and pleased to say it does work.

| Wow, didn't know that would work, Why does it work? Was the drive overheating alot before or something?

| Yeah, must be a heat issue. When drives are knackered the heat means they shut down fast, by freezing them you get a few minutes before they heat up again.

Someone explained to me a while back that it may work because the semiconductors on the card are overheating and by cooloing them, immediately before powering up, buys you some time. It could also be the read/write heads contract when cold also, but either way, it does seem to work, providing there is no physical damage to the drive/platters. If you stanf on one leg and close one eye, when trying this, I'm told it helps too ![]() My System: Home Build

| How about just getting some long SATA cables and extending a molex, and just leaving it in the fridge? ![]() Or just put the whole PC in the freezer ![]() Glad it worked for you, some people think I'm nuts when I've suggested this before lol.
