Default Hard drive not detecting

ok heres what happend.

My dell demension 3000 80GB western Digital hard drive died on me so i took it out and replaced it with a western digital 40GB hard drive (temporary) until i get my new drive.

As i start is says hard drive not detected, Press F1 to Continue or press F12 to go to setup (takes me to Bios)

My hard drive is there Because when i press F1 it just continues and loads up XP like nothing ever happened.

Can Anyone out there help me please.

I'm Also going to cram another hard drive in there next week sometime and i need a little help refreshing my memory on how to do this (it's been 3 years since i last did that kinda thing)

HELP ME PLEASE

You didn't mention what you did when you installed the 40gb Drive ..... did you format it and install XP or ???

If the HDD is detected in the BIOS you'll need to format it in Windows before it can be used. Since it's loading XP, I assume that you installed XP on the new drive and it's actually looking for a hard drive that doesn't exist. In that case, check boot order in the BIOS. CMOS flash should also fix it.
