Default Hard Drive.... overheating

I have a little problem. I think my hard drive is overheating...

well, my computer freezes after about 20 minutes of use. I took the side panel off and that had no effect.

I replaced the fans, cleaned the heatsink... I also replaced the thermal compound (and yes, I did it correctly). That ruled out my processor (I think) because speedfan tells me I run in the 40 celcius range.

HD0 (mah hard drive) hits about 70 celcius and then freezes... even with ice packs, and even when I unhook it and let it hand outside the case itself.

I say it was unlikely to be honest.

More common fault would be bad RAM or a corrupt Windows Install.

Do you have an idea how I can check this? or is it the old "trial and error" method?

To check your RAM you should run memtest(link)
Let it run to 100% before turning it off, it will report any errors that it may have

memtest pulled up no errors. So I guess next in line is checking to see if windows is corrupt?

you could do a windows repair with the CD, but it's looking like it's hardware related.
you could try the windows repair to see if it finds any errors...
or you could throw in a linux CD and see if the problem persists past that

A Windows repair is always a good test, if your PC crashes or freezes whilst installing Windows, you 99% have a hardware fault IMO.

If you download everest from the download section, install it and click on Sensor, it will give you an accurate reading of your temps
Post back a screenshot so I can see if anything looks strange
