Need a little help. I changed hard drives in my pc. I went from a seagate hdd 250gig sata 7200 to a seagate 320igi serial ata hd 7200/16mg sata-3g hard drive. I installed the new hard drive my system won't recgonize the new hard drive. I was told to install a pci sata raid 2 port card.I was told that the new hard drive needed this to work. The problem is, I received the new pci card, but the direction to install it weren't very discriptive. Here's what the direction said to do: connect the hdd led connectors from the computer case to the 2-pin header on the serial ata host controller card; then connect any serial ata device to the connector(s) of the serial ata host controller card with the serial ata cable.
The new pci card came with 2 new cables, just like the one that plugs my hard drive into the mother board now. there are 2 ports on the new pci card. I'm not sure what to plug in where. Any good advice ??

If your motherboard has SATA ports you don't need an additional PCI card.

Is the sata port in the mother board? I have 2 ports in my mother board.one has my hard drive plug into it.The other is empty ,right next to where my haed drive is plug in.
The new hard drive would not show up. I was told I needed the pci sata raid . I was told I upgraded my hard drive. |

You plug the new drive into the each same ports the old one is in, you should have at least 2.
Also connect it to the power supply, again, exacly as the old one is. Then see if it shows up in your BIOS, there are other steps but one at a time. |

I have the hard drive plugged in the same way. I tried to re-load windows xp pro.My hard drive did not show up. I did a auto detect in the bios. I re booted,and tried the f-6 to reinsall the raid files.still not working . That's when I was told I needed the pci raid card. Thanks for your help Dave

But your not running RAID, regardless RAID and everything else you need is included in your motherboard.
Get it showing up in the BIOS, eg; plug in the data and power and detect it in the BIOS, if it will not detect the drive is faulty. Return the PCI card, you don't need it. |

It's a brand new hard drive. I've tried to reload the raid through a 1.44 it will not load.

If the drive does not show in the BIOS it is either connected wrong or faulty, no software or drivers are needed for it to show in the BIOS.

correct, if you have sata ports on your motherboard, there is no need for a PCI card, make sure everything is plugged in to your sata drive as it should be, put your ear next to the drive, or touch it to ether hear it whirring or feel it vibrating, dont touch any circuits that you see though.
