i have an internal seagate 500gb hard drive attached to an external usb casing that worked fine up until recently. Now when i plug it in , my device manager recognizes it as a disk drive named ST3500641A Usb device which is the model of the drive. But it wont show up in the my computer screen. Also my pc wont start up at the right speed if it is plugged in while i start up. Any ideas as to how to fix it and get my my computer screen to show the drive. i really dont wanna lose all my data , thanks.

What do you mean "up till recently"? What happened to stop it form working?
Have you installed the proper drivers as you are using as an external?

Hey there

Do this and tell me is you see your hard drive there;

Select 'Classic View' on the left of the Control Panel if you haven't.
Go to Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Computer Management.
In Computer Management: Click Disk Management, under Storage on the left.

It lists all hard drives connected to your computer in one way or another.

Do you see your hard drive there?

Thanks!

Ok, this might work.
Right click on "My Computer" and click manage.
The on the left you will see disk management. It should be in there. Right click on that and click intilize or something like that.

Hope that helps. ;)

edit: sorry didn't read the other post, my bad.
