Good evening all. I am in need of some assistance regarding my awkward hard drive. Recently my wifes laptop was unfortunate enough to get an ill advised bath from our 11 yer old son. Needless to say the laptop promptly died. not so much a problem, it was an old packard bell igo 3000. the hard drive however survived unscathed. my wife has got some very important & personal data on the drive, which she is eager for me to recover. My problem is that when I try to access the Documents & Settings/Wifes User folder, I am told "access denied" read only drive. Log on as Administrator.

I have the drive set up on a drive caddy and reading as a slave. I can access all folders on the drive with the exception of my own user folder and also my Wifes. Can somebody provide me with instruction on how to access the aforementioned folders or direct me to any software that would make reading the folders possible.

Many thanks in advance to the community.

If you navigate to the either your wifes or your own users folders and left click on the folder. Select Properties and security. Then click advanced, edit, add, advanced, and find now on the screens that pop up. In the search results box highlight USERS then click ok and ok on the next screen. On the next screen click on ful control under allow and click ok, repeat this for the other folder and you then should beable to access the documents. This is under windows vista but the process is not that much different using xp possible a few different screens.
