Hi,
I am desperately trying to help a friend of mine whose computer has stopped working therefore losing pictures of his baby. He has got 2 harddrives, one is a barracuda 7200 7 and the other is a quantaum fireball plus as. Earlier he had the message warning system failure imminent when booting. He hasnt used computer since but when i have just switched off to move things to removable hard drive, the computer is not finding either of the drives. Can anyone help?

HIya Mate,
No they are not there in bios, either of them. Not as recognisable names anyway. The default option is Auto and when i change it to anything else it says primary and secondary drive fails.

If they are not showing in bios, that would indicate either a connection problem or a hardware problem.

I would start off by making sure that all the connections to the drives and the motherboard a firmly in place, as it is pretty unusual for 2 x drives to go bad at the same time.

I had a quick look last night, the cables are really tight in the box as they are cable tired so didnt really want to mess about t00 much but will check. I just need to make sure that the leads that go from the drives to the motherboards are in tight...is that right?

Yep ..... if they are IDE drives (i.e with aprox 2" ribbon cable) it's possible that both drives are on the same ribbon.
Check that all ribbon cables are firmly pushed in.
If they are SATA drives the cable will be approx. 1/2" wide and there will be one for each drive.

Hiya,
All cables are fine but it still isnt showing them in the bios. It has random configurations. On my own computer it just shows like Hard Drive, Floppy, Cd Rom, Dvd Drive etc but on this one there is multiple things like User Imput HDD

Ok, just unplugged the cables and put them in again. as it boots up it says

Primary master disk none
Primary Slave disk 154639mb
sec mast disk cd rom vdma 2
Sec Slave Disk CD Rom Mode 4

Update ESCD Successfully

Disk Boot Failure- Insert System Disk

OK, so now it's only not detecting one drive it's not detecting now. Have you tried swapping the power leads for the drives round?
