Default HD Help,

Hi guys was on asking for help before for other issues (now resolved and both computers built and are tasty!)

What i want to ask now, is that one computer has one and only IDE slot on the motherboard, but i want to put another hardrive into it, (a bigger one)

would there be anything to stop me getting an SATA Hardrive and just using the SATA CABLES etc?

theres stuff on the smaller hardrive i really dont want to lose, so would love to keep that and just have another hardrive, the computer in question has a 600w PSU but runs.

AMD XP 6000 Dual Core
8800 GTS Graphics

would it be possible?

thanks guys

Meidc.

Default HD Help,

No it should be fine mate.
Windows will still look for the primary boot partition on the IDE.
The pc will just view it as just another drive.

Default HD Help,

while im thinking about it, will the motherboard drivers etc have to be on the second hardrive?

also will my existing OS pick up the second hard drive?

ive never installed a second drive before, so anything anyone thinks i need to know is helpful!

Default HD Help,

Well as far as I'm concerned the board drivers will have been loaded when you installed it yes?
The drivers will have installed the info for the sata connections at that time.

Default HD Help,

Sata I 150mb/s
Sata 2 300mb/s

Sata 2 drives often have a jumper to force them down to 150mb/s for boards that only support Sata I.
