HD sleeps

hi all,
i have 2 HD 1 the o/s (c) and one a backup (d) my question is drive d sleeps or turns off while not in use and when i want to access drive d it has to spin up before i can open any of my files eg video music, any help

This is correct, it isn't a fault.

It's a power saving feature and also a longevity-producing feature. If a drive is idle you hardly want the motor continually spinning do you? as, like all mechanical things, it will fail that much sooner.

Not with any software I know of.

But you could always keep a file playing in the background to keep the drive spinning I suppose.

But, I've got to ask, why on earth would you want to turn this feature off? it enables your drive to last that much longer, and reduces the amount of power you use. Over the typical length of a drive's life, this will be rather a large saving (overall) in your electricity bill.
