Hi dude
i have solution for this problem,
i was also having same problem some hours ago but now i have solved it.
i was surfing online to get a solution for this problem and visited this site and read these answers but got no useful solution i have also done 'disk cheking' but it is of no use and finally i decided to solve it on my own.
but my error message is somewhat different from yours but i think that it will solve your problem.
the thing you have to do is to right click on the drive, explore it and copy all data from it to another drive, if necessary.
then you should only formatt the drive and it will suerly solve your problem, mine is solved.
after that copy your data to it again.
plz post a comment if this was usefull because i have spend a lot of time writing this message and signing up.

Thanks for the tip Ashuo. I am now beginning to think the problem is spyware related. I am currently downloading some new anti spyware as SAS hasn't picked anything up and cannot search for updates. I have already copied everything across to my F drive from my main C drive incase the spyware removal doesnt work. In which case Im going to have to do a reformat - which Im not looking forward to.

Will keep the thread updated.

Might be an idea to follow the sticky and post in the virus forum so an expert to make sure you are clean.

So 3 days later and the problem has finally been resolved. The following is a diagnosis of the problem and what worked/didn't work in the resolution incase anyone else has a similiar problem.

Problem: Unable to update/download anti virus/spyware/malware. - Due to browser hijack
- Unable to access hard drives by double clicking (still able to access by R.click>explore) - Malware?
- Unable to view google hits when clicking on link, instead being diverted to viagara site - spyware
- The same viagara ads on every page I viewed...before anyone adds a note, no, I have not purchased nor do I use viagara!
- Unable to do a system restore - No idea of the cause, simply wouldn't even allow me to continue with the restore...

What didn't work: - System restore (obviously)
- Disk check
- All my anti virus related programs - AVG free 8.0, Malwarebytes antimalware, SAS, Adaware
- Ignoring the problem

What DID work: Full reformat of BOTH my HDD's. Total pain in the ass but it was the only cure.

I dont know how I got hit with such an amount of spyware/malware etc, but it happened. I run regular AV scans and use SAS AM/M every third day so not sure how it slipped past me. Rest assurred I am fully covered now with 2008's top rated AV.

Thank you to all who helped out with my problem, I found the help both encouraging and, well HELPFUL! I love being a member of a forum that is able to give speedy and to the point resolutions to problems. Thanks Dave for a great site, I dont have any funds at the moment but I will donate again when I do!

Thanks again, case CLOSED!
