Hi, i was wondering if you could recommend a hdd, between 80-250GB, for my mate as his hard disk failed (Hitachi Deskstar 7K80). Performance and reliability are main things concerned.

Thanks.

I only use Western Digital drives in my computers. Never had any problems with them touch wood.

Maybe this one http://www.novatech.co.uk/novatech/s...html?WD-2500KS

I've heard that Maxtor aren't very reliable HDDs.

I'd say better sticking with the makes mentioned above.

WD's are rather good. I've got two externals (passport and Mybook) that I haven't had any issues with.

But my personal fave is Samsung. Nothing but reliability and cool running in my experience.

(Cheesepuff will have something to say about that no doubt)

I believe Seagate purchased Maxtor about a year or so back, so not sure if the New Maxtors are now up to the standard of Seagates or whether the New Seagates are now down to the standard of Maxtors.

I have 2 x 250gb drives here one of each brand and apart from the sticker on the case, they are identical ..... so I'm not too sure.
