Default Hdd shorts out comp

hi i have a 160gb maxtor drive and when i start the comp with it connected it seems to short the comp out, likewise if i allow the comp to run then connect the hd later it will short the comp out, any ideas?...

Are you sure the jumper is set correctly ..... if you have 2 Masters on one channel (assuming IDE), this could cause probs and the PC will behave strange ..... not finding any drives/not booting etc. ...... is this what you mean by "shorting out"

hi it is a sata drive, i have two of the same drive the other is ok but this one, when i plug it in everything turns off all the fans stop etc,

ok with the hdd connected i turn the comp on, the fans move about 2 degrees as if they have had a short burst of energy then nothing happens and the green light on the front of the comp stays on contunuosly

Is it within warranty, this drive? Because I don't think you're going to get it to work whatever you do to it.
