Default Help with dvd drive

I have a compaq r4000, with a dvd-rw driver it is 5 years old. Some time in mid jan it stopped playing cd-roms and audio cd's, but it will play dvd-roms and dvds. I have been through all the trouble shooters available, and have been in contact with hp themselves where i cleaned up the registry files and re-installed the drive....still it will not play cd-roms or cd's...any ideas?

5 years old, it's probably faulty, for like £10 you can replace it.

Yep .... they're so cheap now, it really isn't worth messing around .... just grab a new one as Dave says.
