I have had this Hard Drive for about 4 months.

It is SATA drive using the narrow red cable.

My problem:
If i plug this drive into my mobo (any slot) and then switch my computer on it starts to post, as usual and detects all of my DVD drives/other HDD's but then stops when it gets to this paticular HDD.

When it stops i cannot get any further, i can't even get into Bios.

What has happened to my hard drive?!

does the computer boot ok when u dont have this SATA hdd connected?

if so have to tried a diffrent SATA HDD in the same computer or tried the SATA HDD that you are having problems with in a diffrent computer? and see what results are

Yes I am using my computer with another HDD and it works fine, basically, if i don't jave the drive plugged in it boots up just fine.

I have yet to try the drive on another motherboard.

Hi, you're drive may need to be change form a 300 to a 150. I just had a problem installing windows to my new sata hdd. could'nt get into the bios etc etc while it was pluged in.

My problem was that my mobo did'nt support sata2, hence having to limit it. If I remember correctly I jumpered pims 3&4 and it worked.

Well here we go again with hard drive problems.... Well here in my repair shop I would set up the drive as master by itself then run the diagnostic software from the manufacturer.
Sometimes I use the Maxtor (now Seatools) to test, seems to work with any drive.
First it will do a test to see if it can communicate with the drive, that the cable is ok.
Next it performs a 90 second test of the drive itself, it will tell you it's ok or advise you to do the extended test. Within a few minutes you'll know if the drive is Ok, Going bad or it's Dead.
