ok here is the deal...

i have an internal hard drive...since it was not been used i decided to install windows xp on it..and i bought some cables on ebay that you can connect SATA to USB...when i tried to boot form it via USB i get a blue screen. i can see the Windows XP loading and then right after that i get the blue screen and my computer restarts...my BIOS recognizes the hard drive... i have done some research and so far of what i have read or comprehended to my understending i need a firewire in order to boot from the hard drive...but not sure...

when the computer starts put in the operating system cd and boot from the cd
choose the repair option (press r)
it should come up with a dos screen with a choice between harddrives choose the new one and press enter
then it should come up with a C:/WINDOWS> or something similar
type CHKDSK /r
and that should sort it out

Are you certain the bios supports "booting from USB" ..... not just supporting USB ? ..... as only newer versions of bios normally do. There should be a specific setting in bios, if it does.

If it definiely supports "booting from USB" then it should work ok.

your right...when i go into the BIOS to set up the priority booting device.. i see (1) cd-rom, (2) Internal HDD (3)the USB..
so i select the option (3)
and the hard drive starts to boot...and i can see the Windows XP loading screen..i attached a link so you know what im talking about and right after that thats when the computer crashes...

may be i have to update my BIOS...
