Default how do i install the data for my cd rom drive?

i have downloaded the i data for the cd rom drive how do i install it so that the computer can identify it.Windows xpp3 662256 ramI have replaced the old drive with this new one so cause the old one didnt read disc no more. i already downloaded the data for it so what do i do with the data so the cdrom drive will work.it wont even detect it by itself yes everything is connected to the driveok let me tell again .my old cd drive is messed up so i gota new one. the computer doesnt detect it and windows xp doesnt add it. i downloaded the driver data for the new cd drive and now i need to know where to put it so the drive will work.

Windows XP likes to load it's own drivers so let it find the new hardware and install it. Go to control panel add new hardware and let it happen

Sounds like your saying you installed the driver,did you?You need a driver for your CD drive to operate correctly on your PC.There should have been a installation CD ROM that came with your CD drive you need to run this to install a driver for your CD drive if you have no way to run a CD ROM you need to do a Google search for the drivers.Just get the brand and search for product support ,them look for the drivers for your model number.

CD Rom drives are generic and do not usually need drivers, what they might need however are Firmware updates.
A prime example of a firmware update is a BIOS Upgrade.
