| Can anyone help I have a external hard drive that has no power. can the hard drive be put into another unit to recover data.It's essential to recover data ? ![]() |

| If it's a standard 3.5" or 2.5" USB drive, you should be able to remove the drive and put it in a new enclosure. It's most likely a standard IDE Drive, so just grab a new USB2 Enclosure and put the drive in. Providing the drive is not damaged it will fire up and work fine.

| If you open the drive enclosure up, you might notice something obvious, like a power connector fallen out. Have you checked the fuse in the plug? If its a 3.5" drive then you could just stick it in a normal computer as a slave and copy the stuff off it, or if its a 2.5", get one of those laptop IDE adaptor things (the name escapes me) and plug it in as normal. Saves buying a new enclusure.
