Default Lacie 250GB HD won't mount!!!

Hey,

I have Lacie HD with all my data on it and it won't mount. My win XP should detect it automatically but it only shows exclamation point next to it. No drivers are required for the installation. Do you have any idea how I can solve this problem or how to retrieve my data?

Many thanks.

Is this an external drive? how are you connecting - usb, firewire? is the drive making any strange noises?

The drive itself sounds ok then in which case. Did the drive work OK before on this computer? have you changed anything in terms of xp set-up?

I also have Lacie drive but when I got it it was set up for a Mac so I had to reformat the drive as NTFS before I could use it. Was it being used on a Mac before?

Have you tried plugging it into a different USB port on the computer?

Does it show up in the computer management box? (right click 'my computer', then click 'manage', then click on 'disk management') does it have a letter associated with to it?

I have read about some problems with LaCie drives acting up after a while, unfortunately the solution seems to be reformatting the drive to get it working again. have you tried it on another computer? I would try it on another computer to see if it mounts - at least this way you'll know for sure if the problem is related to windows or the drive itself.

If the problem happens on other computers too then I would be looking at a software solution to try and retrieve the data, and then reformat it so that it works. I'm pretty sure that this is possible so you should be able to avoid losing your data.

I've already checked it on different computer and I have the same problem. When I connect it to my PC XP says that it found new hardware but there was a problem during the installation process. I can't see it in "My Computer" window thus I can't access my data or format the drive. What software would you recommend for recovering the data???

Thanks
