Have you tried an ordinary PC Monitor as a comparison ?

..... as mentioned when your PC is connected to a HD TV, with an HDMI lead, the TV expects an HD input .... if it doesn't get it, the TV circuitry will try to upscale the incoming image to HD. Some TVs are better at this than others.

Also LCD HDTVs are not so good, when playing SD sources, this is well known ... after all its an HDTV and is best with HD input, such as Blu-Ray, Sky HD etc. Plasma are generally better than LCD for SD stuff.

A normal SD DVD (Not Blu-Ray) will store video at a resolution of 720×576 (PAL) or 720×480 (NTSC), so your TV has a lot of processing to do.

Drive internals are almost identical brand to brand, model to model.

Try experimenting with different screen resolution settings on the PC and see if this helps start off with 1280x720p ..... if all else fails, consider connecting to the TV's VGA port (assuming it has one) instead of HDMI.

Its ok then, its not worth the hassle then. I'm gonna get myself a new panasonic blu ray dvd player this year anyway. I had one last year but sold it, and the image quality with standard dvds was awesome. Blu ray dvds were out of this world.

Whatever mate. I've changed to resolution to different resolutions and nothing is different. The reason why the dvd playback from my panasonic blu ray player was awesome was simple, because it was an award winning 'kick everything else's ass' dvd player. Even jpeg photos on an sd card were awesome when I sed the built in sd card slot.

Maybe there isn't anything wrong at all, and its just that I have such high standards, and most people accept the picture quality. But to me if picture quality isn't flawless then its no good to me.
