Default Maxtor Slave Harddrive

A bit of clarification .... when you say you "i just plugged in my old Maxtor Harddrive" .... what do you mean ? ... i.e. did you put it ina USB enclosure and plug it into a USB port ? or have you opened up your friends PC and connected it as the slave drive, with an IDE cable ?
If the latter, did you change the jumper setting on the drive ?

That Microsoft topic explains how to assign a drive letter and setup to a new hard drive.

If the drive shows up in the BIOS but not in Windows you need to run disk manager as per those instructions and setup the drive.

You need to get it showiing up in the BIOS, if it isn't, the jumpers are wrong.

You need to be a little more descriptive, as yet the Internet isn't psychic.
