| so my only option at the moment is making the harddrive talk to XP ive just read on the Maxtor site that making my Harddrive Slave should be done with no jumper while on the harddrive itself it says it should be across the top |

| Your really not getting this are you. The jumpers are there to tell the BIOS what the drive is and where it can be found. As the PC is seeing the drive this stage is fine, you do not need to mess with it. Stage two is getting XP to talk to the visible drive, this is done with disk manager. Try doing some reading of that link and work your way through the steps. The help is there, try taking some action with it.

| You mentioned in an earlier post that you wanted to try retrieve your data off the drive, but from what you have said since, it doesn't look like this is going to be possible, so as Dave has said, you are going to have to bite the bullet and try something.

Formatting the drive is the obvious next step ..... in easy steps, just right click My Computer, select Manage and in the coloured boxes that show at the bottom of the screen, right click the drive and the options will all be there ![]() My System: Home Build
