Here's my problem. i have a mdadm raid5 array with 6x500gb drives. i'm upgrading the array to 4x1tb drives.
The only way i could think of to preserve the data is to goto another machine, create the new array, transfer the data, and replace the original array.
My first question ...

Here's my problem. i have a mdadm raid5 array with 6x500gb drives. i'm upgrading the array to 4x1tb drives.
The only way i could think of to preserve the data is to goto another machine, create the new array, transfer the data, and replace the original array. My first question is, is this possible. i know i can setup everything and transfer the data, but can I move a mdadm software raid from one machine to another? and if so, How. Second, is there a better way to preserve the data? I have a feeling there is, but I just can't find it right now. Thanks, |

I'm not right up on RAID etc. s I won't pretend this is a definitive answer.

But surely you could just create an image of each HDD, setup the new array, and extract the files from the .iso into the new array? My System: FordyPC
