Default My Cd/dvd Drives Will Not Install Software

Hello Everyone this is my first post and I hope someone maybe able to advise me as to what has gone wrong or/and what I can do to rectify the problem.

A couple of months ago I took my computer to a repair specialist to be checked over because my internet connection had become extremely slow. After carrying out numerous checks and not getting any further, let these specialists have a look at it. The specialist telephoned me to say that the pc was in fine working order and that no fault could be found. Since I have had it back I have tried to re install the software cd and manual for my camera a few times but nothing is happening, the cd is spinning but the start up menu is not appearing on screen. A couple of days ago I decided to re install my computer games to see if they would install but the same thing is happening with these, the disc is spinning but no start up menus or installation is taking place, the same thing is happening with the dvd drive also. Even when I put the launcher.exe. instructions into the run box nothing is happening
All the drives are appearing in My Computer window when I open that. Before taking the pc into this repair shop everything was working on the computer. I have never had this problem before with the installation of any games or indeed my camera. Is it possible that the drives need updating? Does anyone have any idea what this fault could be or why it has occured. The repair shop installed Windows service pack 3 on my pc without asking me if I wanted them to do so.

If it was me i`d take the thing straight back as they have created this problem
and by the sound of it by just un-installing programs here there and everywhere, otherwise
Have a quick check inside the case to make sure all the connections are home and not loose or try "device manager" to see if there are any yellow question marks as these will need upgrading

Turn off your pc check all cables are properly conencted just like red said to do, then if no joy start your pc with the disk in and then when in windows go to my pc and see if you can see drive if you cannot then turn the pc off again, check the jumpers and cables ide/sata to make sure they are properly ordered to give the BIOS the right start order in hardware and this could sort your problem if none of this works take it back to the place where them techy people had it as you didnt have this problem before.

hi mrberty,

I have already done all of those things you said. Also, as for taking it back to those muppets to mess around with it again I don't think I will bother, I will take it to another repair centre if I am unable to get any help from these forums and will in future specify that I do NOT want any installing or updating done without my prior consent.

Try this:

  1. Click Start, type regedit in the Start Search box, and then click regedit in the Programs list. If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type your password, or click Continue.
  2. Locate, and then click the following registry subkey:HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
Caution There can be many instances of the registry subkey that is mentioned in step 2. You must make sure that you are in the appropriate registry subkey before modifying the UpperFilters and the LowerFilters values. To verify that you are in the appropriate registry subkey, make sure that the Default data value is DVD/CD-ROM and the Class data value is CDROM.
  3. In the right pane, right-click UpperFilters, and then click Delete.
  4. Click Yes to confirm the removal of the UpperFilters registry entry.
  5. In the right pane, right-click LowerFilters, and then click Delete.
  6. Click Yes to confirm the removal of the LowerFilters registry entry.
  7. Exit Registry Editor, and then restart the computer.
Note After you remove the UpperFilters registry entry and the LowerFilters registry entry, you may lose functionality in certain programs such as CD recording programs. In this scenario, you must reinstall any affected programs. If the problem recurs, contact the program vendor to determine whether an update is available for the program.

The above came from HERE if you want to read the whole Microsoft KB.

EDIT: If that doesn't work let me know and we will try something else.

Bubba,

I have gone through the steps using the suubkeys as far as CONTROL, when I open that subkey, instead of CLASS subkey it says LSA and no more subkeys show up. Any ideas?

Thanks,
