Hi,

My laptop DVD drive (laptop is less than a year old) won't take some disks (The Chronicles of Riddick and Command&Conquer I've had not work so far). I've tried multiple times to get it to work but I put them in and the drive just whirs, then beeps, whirs then beeps and continues like this until I eject them. It now also happens with my The Sims 3 disk however it will work if I place the disk at a certain angle before shutting the tray (but then if disk is left in, laptop shut down and powered back up then the whirring and beeping stops the laptop from loading up Vista welcome screen).

Help appreciated.

Might be a fault within the DVD drive which is exacerbated if the disk is remotely dirty.
What's the make/model of laptop please?

It's a custom build. I can give you the drive details from dxdiag - Slimtype DVD A DS8A2S ATA Device

& two of the disks were brand new when this happened so no dirty disks.

Hmmm

I've just had a quick google, and it seems that you're far from alone in experencing this problem. From what other people say, it starts with a few disks not working and progresses to nothing working.

My advice would be to replace that drive with a new one.
