Default Is my hard drive failing

Hi, can anyone help. Recently programs are taking a lot longer to load from the hard drive than they used to do. If I put on something new it takes longer to do as well. Wasn't sure if my hard drive was starting to fail or would it just stop altogether. It is over 5 years old and until recently was fine but seems to be getting slower as time goes by. It also makes more noise than it used to do. I have reinstalled windows recently to get rid of a lot of the rubbish that gets on there but it is still slow. Thanks for any help you can give.

Hard drives tend to either work or not. Slow systems that were once fast tend to be down to software issues rather than hardware.

When did you do a re-install, did you put all the correct drivers back?

Also are you running Norton software or McAfee?

Try taking a look through this topic, see if it makes it any faster.

Hi, thanks for the replies. It is about 6 months since I last did reinstall. I used to have Norton but after 4 years I decided to try AVG and it is a lot better and cheaper ie, free. The last time I reinstalled windows the things took longer to to put back on which is why I thought it could be hard drive. Some things also don't seem to run as well as they did in the past.
