Hi
Bought a 750gb OEM Samsung Spinpoint 3-4 months ago(using for storage no OS).
Recently in the last week, the hard drive will be visible in windows and i can edit/move files but after 15 to 20 mins it will disappear. No longer visible in windows no drive letter, icon etc.
I did a fresh XP install on an old HDD today and i was able to use the 750 gb HDD a good couple of hours before it dissapeared again.
Is this HDD on the way out???????????

If this is happening on 2 x versions of XP and 2 different HDDs, then my guess would be that the drive is faulty.
You didn't mention, but I assume this is an internal, not external drive.

To be certain, can you hook it up to another PC ?

If it crashes during file transfer it is on it's way out.

Yep ... if you're getting "Cyclic Redundancy Check" error, that's Windows way of telling you it cant verify the data being written.

Thats strange cause i just used Samsung's ESTool Diagnostic utility and after 3hours and 7mins of testing it passed everything.

I suggest you take a backup of everything before going any further.

Then run the Diagnostic Utility for at least 24 hours and see what it comes back with.

Then try to get an RMA for it.
