I have a 60 gig harddrive.
I had 7 gigs free this morning. Have been burning.copying some dvds and then went to put in another one and got error. Not enough space on harddrive. Need to have at least 4.4 gigs free on hardddrive.
Right now I have about 3.64gigs. I ran a disk clean up and still am short. how do I get more memory?
Thanks

Try Ccleaner it cleans much more than the in built windows tools.

http://www.ccleaner.com/download/downloading - Live exe link.

Also just so you know memory is to do with RAM not hard drive space.

Do you reguarly clear out your Temp folder? Esp. with burning DVD's you have a temp file which can take up alot of space.

Ensure that hidden files are viewable (To change this go into My computer > Tools > Folder Options > View > Hideen files and folders > Show hidden files and folders)

Once you have done that, if you go into (C:\Documents and Settings\*Your username*\LocalSettings\Temp)
In there, there should be alot of files. When deleting if you select the files and hold down shift when you press delete, it will bypass the recycle bin, and get rid of the files. *Please note: you will be unable to recover files that are deleted like this*

If you right click the drive in "Computer" and select "Properties", click the "Disk Cleanup" button and tick up the items to delete.
You can also click on the "More Options" tab and this will allow you to clear all but the last Restore Point and allow you to get rid of any unwante progs.

You might want to invest in an external HD if its happening with both the old and new systems. Whats the size of your HD on the vista laptop? Check out ebuyer and newegg's selection of external HD's.

"Windows only: File space usage application Free Disk Analyzer quickly and easily finds the largest files that are wasting space on your drive."

http://lifehacker.com/5146605/free-d...+wasting-files

Download: http://www.extensoft.com/?p=free_disk_analyzer

As one of the Lifehacker users pointed out, Don't go deleting any files just because there listed as a potential waste of space, its entirely down to you whether a specific 'Space wasting file' is actually a waste or not. This program just gives you an a list of whats taking up a majority of the space and a option to delete.
