I only lose space when I burn dvds. It was easier to erase the temporary files in XP. I just needed help finding out how to do it in Vista. I did the clean up as mentioned in the previous post and it seemed to help clear up a lot.

Ensure that hidden files are viewable (To change this go into My computer > Tools > Folder Options > View > Hideen files and folders > Show hidden files and folders)

I can't get this to work, I go to my computer but there is no tools option. Sorry I am really new to computers. I hope someone can help me. It worked when I tried it on XP but with my new laptop and Vista I am lost

Thank you very much. I still can't figure out how I lost 6gb already. I burned a few dvds and I am pretty sure I erased all the temp files but still don't know why I lose the harddrive space.

Ok guys. I haven't burned any DVDS just surfed the web the last few days. I went from have 14gb left to now only 9gb left. I did 2 disk clean ups and still only have 9gb. I deleted everything in my temp folder and still only have 9gb left. Can anyone tell me why this is happening?

System Restore backups most likely,
Run disk cleanup and once it has estimated how much space you can save, go to the "more options" tab. The click the button to delete all but the most recent restore point.

I go to computer- c:- and then right click and then disk clean up and erase and it's only a few KB. I check the temp folder and there is nothing there. I only surf the web and haven't burnt any programs in at least a month. The system restore - is it easy to do and if I do it will I still have the same programs on my computer or will I lose everything?

You can use the control panel and see the programs you hardly use. Uninstall those programs will create alot of space for you.

I don't have anything on my comp except for MS Office and what is came on the computer. What happens is when I log on one day I will have 18gb, then the next time I turn on the computer before it even loads into windows it shows optimization and and defragment and then i hit escape and go to windows. I check the C: and then it will be down to 14gb. I don't do anything except surf the web. So I am not sure why I am losing harddrive space. I do the disk clean up and it only shows a few MB taking up and deletes them. I check again the next day and it is down to 12gb. I am afraid of doing a system restore because I have never done one before and I don't want to lose MS Office or Roxio 10.

I'd probably get ccleaner and run that once. Then you should probably think about getting an external HD. They are not very expensive anymore. A 250GB-500GB would probably be around 100-130$.
