I have a USB 2.5 inch 60 GB Western Digital Passport model WD600U017-000 I have used to store photos from my 7 yr old dell and everything worked fine. recently, when I would click My Computer and select the drive from the list, I got the response "insert a disk in the drive", so the pc saw the drive but could not see the files on it. Later, I plugged the Passport into my wife's newer laptop.It opened the Passport and I viewed files with no problems. I would greatly appreciate any suggestions.

Right Click My Computer.

Select Manage

Choose Device Manager in the left pane.


Scroll through and see if there are any yellow triangles (mini danger signs)

If yes:
Right click that component
Select Update Driver

If no:
Is the hard drive there at all?
Look through possible menus such as Disk Drives, Storage Volumes, USB Controllers or Other Devices
