| Im not sure if anyone will be able to help me here but I am just wondering if it is possible for hard-drives to be repaired. I have a Seagate external Hard-drive which was nocked from off the top of my computer tower onto a carpeted floor and cannt now be detected by my PC. I have been able to get inside the external drive and see the hard-drive itself and the actual disk itself is fine and undamaged. The problem appears to be the mounting of the disk as when it begins to spin round it rattles and also goes at a much slower pace than it should - Hence why the PC cannot detect it. There are a great deal of files on this drive that I would like to use and was therefore wondering if it is either possible to repaid the exisiting drive or to take the disk out of this drive and put it into another drive? Thank you for any assistance. |

| The easiest thing, if you can, would be to fix it yourself, if you are correct that it is just a loosened connection. If the enclosure itself is completely ruined, then yes, you could just buy another enclosure and refit it into there. Before attempting anything though, it might be worth plugging the drive itself directly into your computer, and backing up the most important of files, then you can proceed with making it useable for the rest of the files.
