| Hello, I am trying to figure out something. My old PC recently died unexpectedly and I never got a chance to back up anything. it was a HP Pavillion a1118x if that helps. anyhow, I connected my old HDD from that computer to my new one, via a USB cable, and saw that everything is as it was on it, except that I now cannot access my files, since they were set to private. What I would like to do is either 1.) find a way to mount my drive through USB and access/back up my files from there, or 2.) put it into my other PC. The problem with option 2 is that I hooked up my old drive to my other PC, and made sure that CMOS was recognizing it, yet it refuses to boot. All it does is gets to 'Verifying DMI pool Data "and freezes. I feel dumb for asking, since I've done seemingly more difficult things, but this has really got me puzzled. Thanks in advance for any help. |

| not so much as a solution, more of a workaround - If your plug the old hard drive into a pc running vista, and try to access to My Documents folder in Documents and Settings, then your user (which i gather you are doing already) it will ask you if you want to change the folder permissions. Much easier option than trying to repair your old pc, if all you want to do is recover your data. |
