Default Quantum Fireball CR won't let my puter boot

I got hold of a Quantum Fireball CR hdd from an old tower. I hooked it up and when my machine boots, I get the "something happened" screen asking me whether or not to start normally or in safe mode. Either way it will reboot and do the same thing, and won't even boot to safe mode? I had it on the sec ide slot in master, no go, I had it on the pri, no go, I jumped it to slave trying each ide slot, no go. It just starts to boot then goes to the boo boo page and whacks out the clock by 3 or 4 hours? At the very least I should be able to boot into my os and it should show this drive as an addition drive for data.

Any suggestions?

Are you booting off the drive?

If it has the operating system on it that was originally installed whilst plugged into a different machine then it probably won't boot.

The OS is detecting major hardware/driver changes and is halting, put a fresh install on it whilst it is in the new machine.

No, I am not booting from it. I made sure in bios that it was at the bottom of the list. All I wanted to do was get into it so I could scrub it and use it for extra storage. But I did notice when my computer was booting, the fireball was very active (hand sitting on it) as though it was booting as well. Hooking it up on the secondary ide slot in slave mode should get me in, but won't? Since I have a sata hdd, do you think the mb is automatically attempting to boot from the ide first even though bios is NOT set that way? Reason I ask is because I have 2 dvd/rw drives. 1 is sata, the other ide, but no matter what I do, the ide takes preference over the sata in every program I run for burning, even when on the secondary ide slot. I have to manually swith them in the burning sw.
