Default Quick question about DVDs/Burners

Here's a quick question -

At the moment, I use my computer's build in DVD/RW drive (NEC ND-4551A DVD-RW drive) to rip and burn DVDs I wish to backup, usually using DVD Decoder or DVD Shrink, and I put them on cheap Tuffdisc 8x DVD-R discs.

How much difference would - an external DVD burner (can they do the read/rip part too? / different software / better blanks (such as Verbatim DVD+R's) make? Which/what would you recommend?

Thanks!

Default Quick question about DVDs/Burners

An external drive works exactly the same as an internal.

Default Quick question about DVDs/Burners

What software, what discs?

A burner is a burner, whether its internal, external, pioneer, sony etc.

They way it operates is governed by the software you use, which by the sounds of it you already have, dvd shrink, nero etc.

The only real reason to upgrade a DVD\CD drive is if it's broken of if you want a faster one.
