Default Sata Hard drive problems

Hi hope someone can help.

i have a desktop running two sata hd's and a few times a year i will get the dreaded blue screen and then when i re-boot windows it wont work and keeps on trying to re-boot.

so i installed xp on the secondary hd. which worked fine. but i plug in the corrupt hd and it will not access it in windows, it sees it as a drive but when plugged in simply slows down the system.

i have tryed formatting in dos and windows but still no joy.
this has happened before andd i dont know the problem, its getting expensive buying new hard drives

does anyone have any ideas to help me please

thanks alot

Jon

When you say "i have tryed formatting in dos and windows but still no joy", can you be a bit more specific ... i.e will it not format, any error message ?

im using the computer management section, when thee format fails it simple says 'format did not complete successfully' and at the time when the drive is plugged in the computer runs very slowly.

also the good one plugged in says file system ntfs but the bad one doesnt have anything under this heading

thanks
