Default Sata Hdd in Enclosure Not Readable on Pc

Hi!

I purchased a ide/sata hdd usb/esata enclosure for my sata hdd, and the first time I plugged it in was on my moms pc in front of the case where the USB ports are.

The drive usb cord got very very hot and I noticed the pc froze.

Now no matter what pc I plug the hdd to it simply won't appear as a storage medium. However the drive works without any problems when plugged into sata port of my motherboard.

Mind you all the USB hdd was readable when I FIRST plugged it in on the BACK of my moms pc. It appeared as normal. However when I plugged it in the front, the cord got very hot then it just working altogether as external storage.

Anybody know what the problem is?

if the cord is getting very hot something is certainly not right with the enclosure, sounds like something is shorting out.
the drive is obviously working as you say it work when you plug it directly into a sata port on the mobo.
have you tried plugging it by usb on the back again, it could be one of the front ports is dodgy.

yes i have.

any usb port from any computer no longer detects the drive when plugged in.

The Usb cord no longer gets hot. the drive is just unreadable when its in the enclosure.

when it got hot (shorting) it probably fried the circuit that translates the data from SATA to USB. if the hdd still works when its plugged directly into a sata port, which i think you said it does if if ive understood your first post correctly, the hdd is okay still.

to put it simply, the usb exclosure was duff, or the port on the pc, more likely the exclosure, as theres not a huge amount that can go wrong with a usb port.

is it under warrenty?
