i found an adapter for sale that climes you can use a
8GB Compact Flash CF Card
SSD IDE Adapter (Desktop PC version)

install windows on it and run windows like a normal harddrive
for as cheap as £15 really i can have sdd for £15? someone tell me its true ? i am wondering about the life of the compact flash card as thousands of read and writes are made

Yea, I've seen those before, that price (£15) will be for the adapter, and doesn't include the price of the CF card, and if you want a fast one, you need to fork out quite alot for it, also, the size it supports means you would need more than 1 in raid to be big enough for installing Vista (or possibly XP, depending on the size of CF you have in them) on it.

There painfully slow, and 8Gb SD / CF cards are still not cheap. £50 min I should think.

And as you say, they do not hold up to lots of writes. The OSs that people put on them are modded to make as few write operations as possible.
