Hello people.
Wanted to set my old Seagate as an external drive and take of all my old files. got all the right sata cables with a power supply. but it's making funny sounds and vista says it's not working. How do I get my files off and do I have to sell my car to afford it

Hi. Yes it has a usb connection. vista loaded a driver. i looked for in with explore but could not see it. diconnected and reconnected then i got the message that it was not recognised and was not working properly. I think they want £250 to get the data off the drive. Thats around $500.0! the cars worth around $600.

thanks

I may try the xp thing on my office computer. For now I have wrapped the HD in cling film then into a plastic bag with two freezer pacs. I have preconnected the cables. The whole thing is in my freezer super cooling. I will try it in the morning with the pacs still round it. If that does'nt work I put it into the shop to see what they can do. I had a great trip to Pi Pi island in thailand last year and all the photos and vids are on it.

Thanks for your advice you chaps.
Keep your fingers crossed with the freezer thing.

If you haven't given it to the shop yet you could try using Knoppix.

It often lets you access dying drives.

The freezer trick is quite a good one, you could try it again and then use Knoppix.
