I have a secondary drive where all my music goes on and movies and ect. But it doesn't work when i boot up linux or windows. I went to the disk utility thing in linux and it says there is a drive named Data Disk.(thats the name of the drive). So i know the hard drive is working. but it doesnt appear in the home folder, and i cant open any thing in it nor can i access it. same thing with windows. i switched my wires to make my D Drive (Data Disk) the primary master drive. and it booted to my old partition of mandriva on it, worked fine. so, something must be wrong within the options of the drive. waht can i do 2 fix it

did you change the jumpers on it to show it to be a slave drive instead of a master drive?
I would say by the sound of your post, you did not. Please ensure you did this otherwise it will not work as a slave. :)

originally, i had not changed anything. the drive just randomlly stopped working. but when i wanted to see if it my secondary drive would boot up, i made it my primary master drive that only it will work and took out my first drive.

what's the model of the hard drives? You (or I) can find a diagram online of the jumper setup for master vs slave, and then you can move the jumpers as needed to ensure they are set up properly.

Both drives have two plugs in them? One from the PSU and one to the Mobo?
What happened right before it stopped working correctly?
The shiny gold pins in your picture are where the jumpers would be located, BTW.

and you said windows doesn't see it? You need to probably remount it in linux.
Another possibility is that the HDD is going bad, is it making any noises?
Also if the jumpers are set properly, the slave probably wouldn't function properly as a master, like you said it did.
