Default Solid State

Well, I was thinking about making my own solid state OS drive, by this i mean using a CF to SATA adapter and a 10GB (or so) CF card (a nice fast one) But I am unsure whether this is actually worth it, should I bother doing this for increased OS speed, or should I just stick my OS on the Velociraptor I'm getting? And does anyoe have any experience in doing this? because I would like to know how straight forward CF to SATA drives are for storing and booting an OS.

Thanks

Not worth it. Slow write times. Save your money.

Default Solid State

I agree with Carbon Thingie, but just to enlarge on his comment.

Granted write times on SSD's aren't really much to write home about but read times are very fast. Faster than the current 333gb/platter hdd's so in that sense they are useful for a gaming build. Plus raid 0 is now a valid alternative as well as ssd's are, being solid state (no head, spindle etc), less susceptible to failure. Four of these in raid would float my boat.

But the downside is cost per gb and also physical capacity. A hdd can be had for as little as 17p per gb (capacity dependent). A 32gb ssd, Samsung i believe, is around the £300 mark.

yea, price and write times were the problems against it, I think i'll stick to the velociraptor then.
