The experts have spoken and I have listened lol. Just purchased a 300GB WD Velociraptor (10,000 RPM). I imagine I'll be bugging you folks on that other thread in the next couple days when I put it in and break something ............

Good choice. Some people are not that fond of the Raptors but I think they are worth the money, and trust me, they are really quick. If you can get your OS on it, then you will have a much faster boot up.

Don't bother with the WD 1TB. The two-platter WD640GB is quiet, quick, and cool. It also performs almost as well as an F1 which performs almost as well as most of the 10k RPM drives.

If you're dead set on a dual setup with HDDs (not that I'm not recommending it, I have one 80GB and one 250GB setup right now), and you don't want to just throw in a couple 640GBs, one of the 10Ks isn't a bad idea. But I would really just grab two 640s. A shame you can't have partial RAID where everything except the OS is mirrored, that would come in handy as very little people are going to have use for 640gb on their OS drive.

Why are you so set on multiple drives? You don't seem to want RAID redundancy and the other types of RAID would be of no benefit. Why not just make some partitions if you want separate drives?

i want 2 drives for 1 OS each. in the even that 1 drive dies, i have another OS to turn to until i can get the other repaired. then a huge ass HDD is needed for things non vital to the computer working, (ie: games, music, videos, etc) this set up not only becomes very handy, but also helps me diognose my computer if somehthing is acting up. say i think the GPU is going bad. if i go to the other OS on the other HDD, i can see if it is the GPU going bad (in this case the problems would be persistant in both OS) OR if the problem does not occure in the 2nd OS, then it might be a software problem on the 1st one. My set up has many beifits. you just got to know how to use em
