Trouble with New disc drive - installing software

Default Trouble with New disc drive - installing software
Hey everyone, i've had this problem since i built this computer roughly a week ago but until now did not know the cause ( I THINK i do now )

I'm using a Samsung SH-S203NBEBN 20x DVD±RW SATA Dual Layer Lightscribe ReWriter (Black) - OEM

^ but am having some trouble when it comes to installing software, ripping CDs etc..

It reads the discs fine but when i try to copy a CD to windows media player, or install a game ( from the disc) it freezes and whatever programs happen to be running at the time (eg. Firefox) stop responding. This is preventing me from playing my new games and listening to new CDs, all of which were christmas presents

Can anyone help me?

All help is GREATLY appreciated and i cannot wait to get this problem sorted
