no it doesnt, thats why i need to format it, the only way i know how to format is to connect the hard drive into the pc and format it that way but is there an easier way to do it

Formatting is not the problem, a drive will show up in my Comp formatted or not.

The issue is that Windows has not assigned the drive a drive letter.

What OS are you running?

OS is xp, the only reason why i mentioned formatting as thats what the company said to do who i bought the enclosure off but if theres another way to do it thats fine, just to add if i go to disk management the hard drive is listed its just not showing in my comp

So you gave it a drive letter, partitioned and formatted it in disc management? That what you need to do.

Try going to Control Panel/Admin Tools/Computer Management/Disk Management .... you should be able to format from there.

Did you assign it a drive letter in Disc Management? You cannot format until you do.
