A while ago one of my external usb drives off 1 TB dissappeared after an extensive investigation i came to the realization that none of my 4 PCs would still recognize it, or even detect anything was attached in the first place.

Originally the drive was formatted in FAT32 (so it could be hooked up to the PS3 and play movies etc).

Obviously because the drive wasnt detected none of the standard datarecoveryprograms would do the trick and we all know sending it in is a garantueed dataloss cause they only swap the drive dont even fix it.

So i decided to open it up myself (yes yes void warranty damage etc) i repaired electronic devices myself for quite a bit so i dare to say i knew what i was doing ;)

After opening it up inside i found 2 500GB Seagate Barracuda drives. So i took one out hoocked it up to my pc and ran a datarecovery program on it and it found a VERY SMALL amount of files but there was no track of a filesystem whatsoever. I only scanned to drive to recover data nothing has been changed on it yet.

After that i took the second drive and inserted it and it contained the filesystem of both drives. So windows thinks that drive has 880GB of data on it.

Now my question is, is there any way i can hook up both disks and make it work. Because i can copy the files from the disk with the filesystem that are physically on the disk, but the other files will error (obviously).

The original usb drive was an iomega one btw.

Did you check the Power Supply Unit on the drive, as many have reported failing PSUs, on USB External Drives.
