Default USB power supply to 3.5" caddy

Hi,

Odd one. I was fiddling about on a PC via remote trying to get a USB hard disk to initialize. At one point I tried removing the USB root hub after which a buzzing started from the USB drives transformer. A minute later it popped and died, very hot, cable nearly melted.

Are the two events connected, can uninstalling the USB hub fudge up the power delivery?

Grateful for enlightenment.

Kind regards,

David

I meant the driver, there isn't a physical USB hub
